South African Parliament to review Online Gaming once more!January 23, 2015
The topic of online gaming in South Africa is back up again and is due for a hearing at the Parliament in February of 2015.
It has been a tough and long road for online gambling in South Africa as previous attempts were quickly subdued in part with the help of land based casino owners and anti money laundering agencies.
To those who aren’t aware online gambling in South Africa is highly restricted. Online Casino, Bingo and Poker are all illegal and are harshly punishable if practiced. There are severe financial penalties and fines imposed on those who play on top of hefty prison sentences, up to 10 years simply for playing.
Only form of online gambling that is somewhat permitted in South Africa at this time is sport betting which does put a beam of hope on the other products opening up some day.
The Remote Gambling Bill is being summoned up this time by Geordin Hil-Lewis who is the shadow minister of trade and industry for the Democratic Alliance. He is confident that this time the bill should pass given to the numerous changes implemented to make it compliant with existing legislations and the fact that this will bring millions upon millions in extra revenue for the government. The next chapter of South African Online Gambling is about to unravel in front of us shortly so stay tuned for updates.
